WORD TO GUIDE THE YEAR

I have given consideration for "The Word" to guide my year.  It came to me as I was standing at a door where all I needed do was ENTER and on the other side of the door were people I did not know, yet, it was time to make an entry.  In this unknown you hold your head up, smile and begin those conversations to get to know people.  Driving home I begin to think of all the times I had to ENTER the known and unknown.  So the word for the year is ENTER.   Enter not just doors but places, things and creativity....it will be a year of Entering!

When working on applique/knitting projects are done, hiking done and dinner done -- it is time to relax

Our new RV was out for its second trip this weekend and it worked perfect.  I love the fact that getting away can be so easy AND I can take along any project(s) I want.  Knitting on a sock, working on making grapes for an applique block and reading the books/magazines that are waiting to inspire all filled the time.  I am reading The Book of Wool by Clara Parkes and lots of quilting magazines and it was wonderful to get reading done.  Here's to YOU, have a great time in all the ways your relax.

Qiviut

My trip to Alaska last year found me at the Oomingmak Musk Ox Producer's Co-opertive drooling over the finely hand knit items.  I just had to have one so I bought a Toksook Bay Nelson Island (diamond) pattern SmokeRing hand knitted by Trisha M Brooks.  I had no idea how much I would love this purchase!  Who knew it would become my go to for winter?  This exquisite fiber is very rare and one of the finest fibers in the world.  It compares favorably with Cashmere and Vicuna.  It has no barbs and does not scratch like wool (I can say it is so soft).
This SmokeRing is so warm that it seems to keep my whole body warm even though it is just around my neck.  It looks great with sweaters, jackets, and I have to say even my PJ a few times that I was cold (I did not sleep in it, but it was tempting.)

Easy Street Coming Together

I am feeling  better as I get comfortable with the wild look.    Jungle Street will be OK.  
I have all the pieces together and it is started to take it's shape ... BUT  I have to say it is more like Jungle Street or Hot Mess Street.  My choice of "background" black and white is busy busy and takes the pattern out of the spotlight.  It is not what one sees in the one Bonnie Hunter did, but hey, it is...
This is planned to be 4x4 but that may just be too large, I may do smaller and add some borders or maybe?  It goes to together so easily and all the parts set in well.

NEW YEAR '13 Tables Ready --DONE

DONE - HAPPY NEW YEAR

Each year we celebrate with family in our traditional New Year's Eve meal...lobster and Dom.  The tables are set to welcome one and all.  (sorry bout pic quality, can't figure out what the issue is?)

Centerpieces on both table have glow in the dark bracelets, poppers w/fortunes, tatoos and tabasco samplers (from our Thanksgiving trip to Louisana).

Knit Hat...wrong yarn?

A simple knit hat but the yarn is so scratchy...Not sure it will get much wear but it is super warm.  The yarn was a wool that I got on my trip to Vermont, just can't find the ball band to know what it is.  I know it was from a Vermont sheep farm and was spun in Vermont.  Sometimes knitting can seem like a great fit with pattern and yarn and then it does not turn out exactly as planned.  At least that is my knitting novice issues. I certainly know how to knit, just don't always know what I am doing.  Got for Christmas three really super books by Clara Parkes: The Knitter's Book of Yarn, The Knitters Book of Wool and The Knitters Book of Socks.  The books are an easy read and I am finding them full of really great information, text book stuff that I need to absorb and take my knitting to a better place in yard choice.  Off to read more of my books...Happy Knitting.

Easy Street Part 5 Mystery

It is Part 5 of the Bonnie Hunter mystery and I did a few just to get in on the linky day.  Christmas has me all wrapped up with getting ready for family fun on Christmas morning.  Not much on the mystery as I have no idea what it might turn to be, but I am having fun and it is a great way to work a quilt into my life.  Sometimes I get so focused on getting a quilt DONE that I miss the fun of a quilt on Easy Street where it is better to walk slowly and look in all the downtown Christmas windows.  Yea, it is nice to slow it down to one step at a time.

I love that this was snowball corners, wintery white images played in my head as I was sewing ....to each of you

Fourth Sunday of Advent

The 4^th and last Sunday of Advent, the big day of delivery is coming for Mary and Joseph, joy to the world is so near.  Mary, an unwed mother to be at age 14 (so scholars tell us) must be so tired and gosh knows the back is not feeling so great as the baby drops to ready for birth (I am reminded the gospels were written by men and I wonder what the gospels would read if written by women?)  Yet in this story we do not see anything but wonder, majesty and love of God for his children and Mary will become blessed and given high status among women as we honor her commitment to her calling from God to bear a child in this way.  Joseph was brave, but Mary, my Mary was so brave.  How we respond to God’s calling for us makes us brave too.  We cannot deliver his Son as Mary, but we can deliver HIS Son - we can give hope to the world we live in, we can be there hearing the cries of babies wanting; we can give not as Mary and Joseph gave, but as we can give. We wait with Mary and Joseph, we wait with the world, we wait with GOD.  I can see God smiling in and around that day to come, the birth of his Son, the Savior of our world then and today.  Come, Come baby, bring joy to the world and peace.  COME, COME LORD JESUS.

Easy Street Flying Blue Geese

It is those pesky geese again.  Geese are starting to fly however and I will get them all done but must take a break to finish some Christmas gifts that are due tomorrow.   Easy Street is keeping my interest and I look forward to the pattern and play to start showing itself
